About Me

Hi! I’m Chloe.

Me

I am a third-year PhD student at Carnegie Mellon’s Human Computer Interaction Institute. My advisors are Jodi Forlizzi and Anind Dey, and I am primarily interested in studying how people become more aware of themselves and change their behaviors through using self-monitoring tools. I am specifically interested in how visualizations in self-monitoring tools can adapt to users’ needs over long-term to keep them engaged in self-tracking. My side research interests include engagement with dynamic art installations, and encouraging physical activity in older adults.

Research keywords: behavior change, motivation, self-tracking tools, personal informatics, quantified self, engagement, data visualization, rewards, long-term engagement, public displays and installations.

I graduated in June 2009 from Wellesley College with a B.A. in Media Arts & Sciences and Psychology. My undergraduate thesis is “WiiPaint: Full-body interaction in a collaborative art application,” advised by Panagiotis Metaxas, Orit Shaer, and David Olsen.

In my spare time, I enjoy playing the piano, guitar, and ukulele, learning languages, playing Katamari, Rockband, and DDR, and going on adventures with my camera.
